How do I know if my rig is 10mm?

Measure the outside diameter of the glass joint on the rig. 10mm is noticeably small — roughly the width of a pencil — against the far more common 14mm and 18mm. If you are not certain, a 6-in-1 nail covers all three sizes and removes the guesswork.

Why titanium instead of quartz?

Titanium holds heat longer and survives being knocked while hot, which is exactly when quartz chips and glass cracks. Quartz heats and cools faster and is generally reckoned to taste cleaner. For durability and travel, titanium wins.

How do you season a new titanium nail?

Before first use, heat the nail with a torch until it glows, let it cool fully, and repeat two or three times. That burns off machining residue left from manufacturing. Never quench a hot titanium nail in cold water.
